How to post images with thumbnails. PLEASE READ!

Postby KG » Sat Feb 24, 2007 2:45 am

Introduction
To save on readers' bandwidth and to make everyone's experience better, posting full images isn't allowed on any of the forums here. Instead, please post thumbnailed links to the full images. Don't worry if you haven't done this before, the following step-by-step guide will get you up to speed.

A Place to Upload Your Images
Firstly, you'll need to decide on a company to host your images. I recommend the following hosts:

http://imageshack.us
http://www.imagevenue.com
http://www.putfile.com
http://www.photobucket.com *

Please do not use hosts that pay for displaying images, such as imagecash.

Uploading Your Files
Although each company's interface will vary, the basic upload experience will be similar. I'll go through an example with ImageShack to illustrate.

Here's the homepage at http://imageshack.us. Click the Browse button to start, as highlighted.

Navigate to the image you want to upload and double-click on it. Once you've done this, the path to the image file should appear in the text box next to the Browse button, as shown below.

The next step is to click the host it! button, which starts the upload process.

After the upload has completed you should be redirected to a screen like the following, which includes the codes you'll need to post your newly-uploaded image to this forum or your own website. Simply copy all the text in the indicated box into your post and you should be set!

Be sure to use the Preview option before submitting your post to make sure everything's A-OK.

Some hosts allow you to upload multiple files in one batch (such as ImageVenue or Imageshack if you use their toolbar). Try a few and see which one suits you best.

* Please note, Photobucket requires you to log in, go to album view, select the pictures, then click the 'Generate HTML and IMG code' button to produce the thumbnail code. A full guide is available here: http://forums.photobucket.com/showthread.php?t=11439.

The rules have been updated: do not post media from pay-per-click hosts, such as FileSonic and HotFile.
